What methodology do you use for handicapping games?

This question is almost too big to answer, as there are literally hundreds of variables, and because the answer varies greatly for each individual sport and each individual game.
Unlike many handicappers, I am not generally big on 'systems'. Regardless of the sport, I try to gather as much information as possible on every aspect of each game that I wager. For the most part, my plays are based on my own personal opinion of the strength or weakness of a given team, similar to what others call power-rankings. (which I am constantly re-evaluating) I analyze these 'power ratings' as well as the various psychological and motivational factors (i.e. will a team be up for a game or do I think they may suffer a letdown due to something that happened previous to the game in question) that pertain to the game.
Over the course of a season I generally play alot more underdogs than favorites, but I may have a week where I play almost exclusively favorites. In all cases I look for value against the line. I set my own line before seeing what the actual Vegas or offshore line is, and look for differences between the two. I will not play a game simply because I think the line is off, if I like the other side. Conversely I will stay off a game that I do like, if I think I am getting a bad number. As a general rule I try to avoid playing a game where the number has moved against us from its opening number and in cases where I estimate this might happen I try to release that play early before the line move
